More Toll Hikes – WTF!
I heard on the radio this morning that the state of MA is upping the tolls on the Mass Pike again! To get into Boston it is now going to cost $1.25 and if you get on where I live in Waltham, it actually costs $2.50 because there are too tolls one to get on and one to get off. Also, I feel bad for anyone who needs to take the tunnels who will now be paying $3.50. The thing that stinks about the whole situation is that the tolls were originally meant to pay for the repair of the highways and were eventually supposed to be phased out. According to the news, the toll hike (starting in January) is to pay for the ridiculous cost of the big dig. Gotta love it – the state screws up and wastes billions of dollars and years of time and the residents need to pay for it– gotta love our system at work!

They did it AGAIN! (and other sports commentary)
So you all knew this post was coming! I’m very excited for our boys the Red Sox – CONGRATULATIONS! BTW – please note that I did not say “We did it”. Yes, I’m a fan, but I was not on the field night after night pitching, fielding and hitting, so I will not take any credit for the victory. I will just enjoy the celebration. So, to all of those life long Sox fans, enjoy the party and then as all good fans do – we’ll start thinking about next season!
Other sports commentary:
Football - I would be remiss if I did not also congratulate the Patriots and their fantastic season thus far. I’m very confident that this team is well on its way to yet another Superbowl – oh wait, I can’t say that word because its under copyright protection – let me rephrase – the “Big Game.”
Hockey – For those of you who still follow the sport, my husband and I are big Bruins fans. I just wanted to take a moment and give my best to Patrice Bergeron. For those of you who saw the game on Saturday, you witnessed the terrible hit from behind he took. I’m just glad that he came through with only a concussion and broken nose. As I told my husband, watching him hit the boards and collapse reminded me of the terrible incident with Travis Roy of BU. I was at that game as well and the whole situation still breaks my heart! So, Patrice, I hope you’re feeling better and we’re looking forward to seeing you back on the ice soon!

Book Review – Patterson’s “The Quickie”
So, those of you who know me, know that I am a big James Patterson fan. I just finished one of his recent books — “The Quickie.” I gotta say on a scale from 1-10, I give it a 6.5. I liked that it was a quick read and the story line was compelling. Its basically about a lady cop who thinks her husband is having an affair, so she has a “quickie” with a co-worker. The result is that the co-worker ends up dead. There are also a lot of twists and turns (some predictable, some not) to keep the reader interested. I think the biggest issue I had was that the book could have ended in four or five different places, but Patterson just kept going. It pretty much got to the point of ridiculousness at the end. So, if you like Patterson, I say pick it up, but be prepared to role your eyes a few times during this one.

Here we go Red Sox, Here we go (clap clap)
Ok, so yes, I have a bit of Red Sox fever. How can you live in MA and not — Game One is TONIGHT! It’s all you hear about on the TV and Radio. First and foremost, Tim Wakefield, we will miss you in the series, but here is to a speedy recovery! Second, what is with all of the antics surrounding the event? Whether its Giuliani rooting for the Sox, the return of the bullpen parrot (I’m sorry, I don’t believe that the parrot just happened to show up in the freezer of 2 college kids) or the fact that Ben Affleck’s Sox hat was taken out of the trash and is on eBay (and the DJ this morning who was freaking out because now is not the time for a hat change). What is important is that the first game of the World Series is tonight in Boston. So, here’s to our boys down at Fenway, let’s bring home another championship!

Way too long/Attack of the lady bugs!
Hello my loyal readers, if I have any loyal readers after not posting for a month! Sept./Oct. has been a whirlwind, but that is no excuse! So, I’m going to make up for lost time. Today’s words of wisdom aren’t really all that intelligent, but more of an observation. As some of you know, I’m based in good ole MA. We’ve been having unseasonably warm weather – which I’m not complaining about. The one thing I have noticed, however, is that there is an overabundance of lady bugs climbing up my windows. I work on the 7th floor and they are just covering my windows. Although there are a lot worse bugs that could be scaling the building, it is a bit disturbing to see dozens of these things a day — and they are on every window of my company’s office. Is anyone else witnessing this strange phenomena?
