Book Review: Almost Moon by Alice Sebold
So when I heard that the author of Lovely Bones came out with a new book – I had to have it. As my husband noted, I take a long time to read a book because I thoroughly enjoy it. Lovely Bones I finished in a day or two – not that I didn’t enjoy it, rather it was so intense, I couldn’t put it down…I will also definitely see the movie coming out next year.
When I got the Almost Moon I dug in immediately, but then my pace slowed, as did the book itself. The main character and narrator (Helen) begins by murdering her mother. Then throughout the book Sebold leaves opportunity for multiple plot twists, that never happen – she’s going to hide the murder, no blame it on someone else, no runaway, no commit suicide. At the same time, Sebold referred back to Helen’s time as a child – a mentally ill mother, a father who committed suicide. All the while, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, which is why I was so disappointed by the end of the book when essentially nothing happened. She was left “waiting”.
I’m sure there will be plenty of people who love the book, but I didn’t care for the fact that Helen was constantly whinning about her mother and her childhood and blamed her mother for shaping her entire existence. Also, the ending ruined it for me so I ended up being disappointed. That’s not to say I wouldn’t read other books by Sebold, I just needed more from this one.

Verizon Fios vs. Comcast – no contest
Verizon Fios recently came to my area so I switched from Comcast. All I have to say is – LOVE IT! When I had Comcast my high speed internet was shotty at best. I had so many service calls that I ended up knowing more about my technician than I did about my own family. I think I had at least 4 motums replaced. With Fios, I’ve not had an issue at all – and its been a few months. I’m very pleased with the reliability and the speed of service. So, for those of you who are considering switching – I say Go For It, well worth it.

Happy Summer!
I can’t believe it is the end of May and we’re into summer – where does the time go! I’m looking forward to a fun filled summer of weddings, showers, bachelorettes and more baby showers – per my previous post back in March – they just keep coming! Unfortunately, no vacation planned, but that doesn’t mean that Jack and I won’t be hitting the beach.
Anyway, I would not be a proper parent if I didn’t wish everyone well, but at the same time, please play safe (this goes for adults too). Summer is a fun time and we all want to keep it that way!!! So, take the time to relax, smell the flowers and kick back, just don’t be stupid about it.
